A supermarket owned by Florence Ajimobi, wife of the late Abiola Ajimobi, ex-governor of Oyo state, was on Sunday razed by fire.

Moshood Adewuyi, deputy director of the state’s fire service, said the incident occurred at one of the Grandex Supermarket outlets located at Bodija, Ibadan, the state capital.

The fire, which started around 3pm, was said to have been caused by an electrical surge from the back of the store which later spread to the main building.

Officials of the fire service put out the inferno while operatives from Operation Burst were present to protect the store from being looted.

Ajimobi arrived at the scene in the company of friends and family to monitor the situation.

The incident comes three days after she completed the 130-day mourning exercise for her husband who died of COVID-19 complications in June.
