Traders destroy Niger deputy governor’s house over demolition of their shops
The private residence of Ahmed Ketso, deputy governor of Niger state, was on Tuesday destroyed by irate traders over the demolition of their shops.
The traders claimed that their shops located at the mini-market along Brighter Road by the state urban development board, Minna, the state capital, were brought down without prior notice.
They said their goods were destroyed because they were not allowed to evacuate their valuables.
According to The Nation, the mob went to destroy Ketso’s house which is on the same lane as their shops, asking why the deputy governor’s house was left standing.
However, Muhammed Daba, acting general manager of the Niger State Urban Development Board, said the traders were duly notified of the demolition exercise.
He added that the shops were illegal structures and needed to be brought down.
