Bala Mohammed, governor of Bauchi state, has called for the establishment of state police, saying it will help to improve national security.

The governor made the call during the north-east governors’ forum meeting in Bauchi on Wednesday.

Mohammed said if state police is established, the activities of the federal police would be complimented and it would lead to an increase in the coverage of police protection.

The governor condemned the indiscriminate attacks on soft targets and the military while applauding the nation’s security operatives for their bravery and exceptional performance in confronting insurgents, armed bandits and other criminals.

Speaking further, Mohammed said the governors’ forum will construct roads in each of the member-states through peer review of its activities.

“We will further link our states with access roads for effective transactions,” he added.

He added that his administration was presently engaged in the provision of needed infrastructure aimed at making the state assume its expected cosmopolitan status.

“We have employed no fewer than 10,000 artisans as part of our drive to empower the youth and generate employment,” he said.

The governors’ forum meeting was attended by Baba Gana Zulum, governor of Borno state; Ahmadu Fintiri, governor of Adamawa state; and Inuwa Yahaya, governor of Gombe state.

Yobe and Taraba states were represented by their deputy governors.
