APC dismisses PDP’s claim of misrule, says Nigeria is Africa’s largest economy

The All Progressives Congress (APC) says Nigeria remains Africa’s largest economy, despite Twitter’s choice of Ghana as its headquarters on the continent.

The US-based microblogging and social networking service, on Monday, announced the launch of its first-ever African office in Accra, Ghana.

Reacting to the development on Wednesday, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said Twitter’s preference for Ghana over Nigeria was occasioned by “inconsistent economic policies, obnoxious suppression of free speech, stifling of online freedom and open internet” by the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.

However, in a statement on Thursday, John Akpanudoedehe, national secretary of the APC caretaker committee, said Twitter has the right to cite its head office anywhere.

“Following from a statement from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), our response to Twitter’s decision to cite its Africa operation in Ghana is simple. The decision or rationale of private concerns, particularly businesses on where to cite their operations, are their exclusive preserve. It is a no issue,” he said.

Akpanudoedehe said the attempt by the PDP to mock Nigeria over the missed “business prospects” does not mean well for the country and should not be considered as good governance option.

“It is exhausting and depressing highlighting PDP’s ignominious past. The APC would rather consolidate and focus on how Nigeria is finally getting it right under President Muhammadu Buhari,” he said.

“Nigeria’s current status as African largest economy was achieved under President Buhari-led APC administration and our industries citizens are the ultimate beneficiaries.”

Akpanudoedehe added that the current administration has also improved ease of doing business through the establishment of the presidential enabling business environment council (PEBEC).
