Akwa Ibom donates N60m to families of slain police officers

Udom Emmanuel, governor of Akwa Ibom, has donated N60 million to the families of officers killed during recent attacks on police stations in the state.

The governor announced the donation when he visited the state police headquarters on Monday.

There have been attacks on police stations and security facilities across the state in recent times.

Over the weekend, two police stations were invaded by gunmen, leading to the death of several officers.

According to Ini Ememobong, Akwa Ibom commissioner for information and strategy, the governor visited the police headquarters in Uyo, to commiserate with the command over the loss of personnel and properties in recent attacks.

“Immediately after the state executive council meeting, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel, paid a visit to the officers and men of the Police at the State Police Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo,” Ememobong said in a statement.

“The visit, he said, was to condole with the command over the loss of men and assets to the recent security issues witnessed in the state.

“He announced a donation of the sum of N60 million for the families of the policemen who lost their breadwinners in this period.”

While responding to the gesture, Andrew Amiengheme, the state commissioner of police, appreciated the governor’s donation, and promised to work towards ending criminality in the state.
