The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) says it has fixed the runway lights at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

Over the weekend, the dire state of the infrastructure caused British Airways (BA) to divert its Lagos-bound flights to Abuja airport.

The BA075 Lagos had to divert to Abuja “due to local infrastructure issues” in Lagos, BA had communicated to passengers.

Speaking with TheCable on Monday, Henrietta Yakubu, spokesperson of FAAN, said the runway lights had been fixed.

“We have fixed all lights…It was fixed the next day,” she said.

“International flights have started landing… everything is fine now.”

However, an official of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) – the body regulating the aviation sector in Nigeria – told TheCable that the issue was more about bad weather and operational issues.

Adurogboye Sam, the spokesperson of NCAA, said the agency is still monitoring the development after downgrading the landing procedure at the international wing of the Lagos airport.
