Mai Mala Buni, chairman of the national caretaker committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has promised to reconcile aggrieved members of the Kwara chapter of the party.

According to a statement by Mamman Mohammed, his director-general of media, Buni made the pledge when he received Ibrahim Oloriegbe, senator representing Kwara central; Oyelola Ashiru, senator representing Kwara south, and Sadiq Suleiman-Umar, senator representing Kwara north.

There has been controversy in the state chapter of the ruling party over campaign funding for the 2019 elections.

Lai Mohammed, minister of information, had claimed that he raised a major part of the funds for the state’s 2019 elections but Kwara lawmakers denied Mohammed’s claim.

The minister had also said he regrets supporting Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq as the Kwara governorship candidate.

Commenting on the disagreement, Buni was quoted as saying the leadership of the party is focused on building a strong and united party.

“The national leadership of the party will continue to support unity and progress of APC in Kwara state,” Mala-Buni was quoted as saying.

“As you are aware; the Caretaker Committee is repositioning the party, reconciling differing opinions to build strong and united membership that will improve the fortunes of our party.

“The leadership of the party has great respect for due process, discipline and all programmes that will contribute to making it stronger.”

Responding, the senators assured that they would continue to promote unity among members of the party in the state.

“The senators commended the governor for giving the party the desired leadership with a sense of direction,’ the statement reads.

“They promised to use their positions to help build a strong APC in Kwara state and to contribute meaningfully in the parliament to support the APC-led government towards improving the lives of Nigerians.”
