The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) has announced that Nigeria is expected to receive 176,000 doses of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday.

Faisal Shuaib, executive director of NPHCDA, stated this in Abuja, on Tuesday.

According to Shuaib, the J&J vaccine is “safe and efficient against the COVID-19 disease, including the deadlier Delta variant”.

In May, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) approved the use of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine in Nigeria.

The vaccine dosage is administered as a single-shot jab.

TheCable had reported that the federal government will begin administering the second batch of COVID-19 vaccine doses on August 16.

The federal government had received over four million doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine from the United States on August 1.

The presidential steering committee (PSC) had earlier announced that vaccination will commence on August 10, but it was later postponed over “unforeseen circumstances”.

As of Monday, Nigeria had recorded 178,508 cases of COVID, including 2,192 fatalities.
