Dozie Nwankwo, lawmaker representing Anaocha/Njikoka/Dunukofia federal constituency, says the malfunctioning of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) is an attempt to “sabotage” the Anambra governorship election.

Nwankwo, who cast his vote after several attempts to get accredited with the BVAS, said malfunctioning of the technology is an attempt to frustrate voters.

“The process is not going well. The machine is not working. INEC is the one sabotaging the election,” he said.

“Imagine a polling unit of over 1,000 registered voters, only 20 voters have been able to vote.

“At the national assembly, we never voted against electronic voting. It’s good but INEC is sabotaging the election.”

TheCable observed that the election started at polling unit 003 and polling unit 015 in Enugu-Ukwu ward 001 at 11:35am.

However, there was problem with accrediting voters as the BVAS wasn’t functioning properly, and only fingerprints were captured.

Polling unit 003 has a total of 1,466 registered voters, while polling unit 015 had a total of four registered voters.

Meanwhile, a joint patrol team of security personnel including the army, police, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) visited Nwankwo’s polling unit to ascertain that the process was going smoothly.

According to a presiding officer at polling unit 07 in Amawbia, Awka south LGA, INEC has promised to address the BVAS problem experienced by voters.
