Frenchman Michel Dussuyer has been appointed as the new coach of African champions Cote d’Ivoire.

The 56-year-old has signed a two-year deal with the option to extend the contract according to the country’s football federation (FIF).

He was on a final shortlist of two names along with compatriot Frederic Antonetti, after a third shortlisted candidate – Poland’s Henry Kasperczak – opted for Tunisia coaching job.

Dussuyer replaces Herve Renard who resigned shortly after winning the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations with the Elephants in Equatorial Guinea in February.

He’s now with French side Lille.

Dussuyer is no stranger to African football. He had coached Guinea on three occasions, and recently took them to the quarter-finals of the 2015 AFCON where they eventually lost to runners-up Ghana.

He also coached Benin between 2008 and 2010 and before that worked as an assistant to Henri Michel with Cote d’Ivoire.

His first competitive game will be the 2017 AFCON qualifier against Sierra Leone in September.
