Boko Haram attacks home of new army chief

Boko Haram attacks home of new army chief

Two people were killed and eight injured when Boko Haram attacked the family house of Tukur Buratai, the new chief of army staff, on Tuesday.

Buratai, who has been talking tough about the insurgents since he was named chief of army staff a week ago, was not in Buratai, his village in Borno state, when the attack took place.

Reuters reports that suspected Boko Haram militants also burned down several houses.

Buratai recently changed the code name of the army operations in the north-east from ‘Operation Zaman Lafiya’ to ‘Operation Zaman Lafiya Dole’, vowing that he would make Boko Haram beg for peace.

His boast was similar to that made by Alex Badeh, former chief of defence staff, who promised to crush Boko Haram mercilessly on assumption of office in 2013.

After a series of attacks by the militants who eventually took over his country home in Adamawa state, Badeh said his statements were meant to motivate the soldiers.

He must learn his lessons the hard way. Nigerian security talk a lot. They are too loquacious! Action and less talk is needful.

SojiSocial Adebayo has made a point I am very in support with. There should be a very confidential covert operation like that which the Americans used to send Bin Laden packing. Enough of empty talks. KILL THEM ALL. I AM OPEN FOR FREE CONSULTATIONS.

Obviously, to teach him a lesson! The new army chief should talk less and act more. The insurgents have personally taken the war to him without much ado, and were it not for theirs atrocities, I would have said bravo for their gallantry! A lesson for our loudmouthed but locomotives service chiefs!

Our armed forces have the right to say what they say(talking tough) . The problem now is to realize that infiltration is at its peak. How does gboko haram know these officers village if they spent so long in d Malian or Chadian deserts. Clearly there are moles within the system. Not necessarily cabals. The security forces need to look into that. Talking tough is normal all over the world and it is the strategies of engaging that is expected to be secret. Please give our officers a break

It shows us that this guy is another bunch of queless army chief again. Buhari should read the hand writing on the wall and remove him immediately for a more tactfull chief…he will succeed in wasting our time and resources again like his predecesor

Nigeria Army should learn from the proverbal duck that kept quiet when the kite made away with its duckling. The mother kite asked the son to return the duckling after receiving the report that the duck did not make noise, rather it kept quiet but was secretly planing a revenge operation.
