Buhari returns to Nigeria after condolence visit to UAE

President Muhammadu Buhari has returned to Nigeria after a two-day condolence visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Buhari landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at about 4pm on Saturday along with the members of his entourage.

He embarked on the trip on Thursday, following the death of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, president of the UAE.

While in Abu Dhabi, the UAE capital, Buhari met with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the new president of the country, and expressed his condolences on the passing of the former president.

He also joined the Jummah prayers for the repose of the soul of the late president on Friday.

Buhari, in a meeting with the new UAE president, also expressed hope that the two countries will continue to actively champion a vision of sustainable security, strengthen counter-terrorism cooperation, facilitate trade and investment, and promote prosperity and development.

Buhari was accompanied on the trip by Zubairu Dada, minister of state for foreign affairs; Isa Pantami, minister of communications and digital economy; Mohammed Bello, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT); and Hadi Sirika, minister of aviation.

Other members of his delegation were Mohammed Monguno, national security adviser; and Ahmed Abubakar, director-general, national intelligence agency.
