The disqualification of 10 presidential aspirants by the screening panel of the All Progressives Congress (APC) dominated the frontpages of Nigerian newspapers.

The Saturday Punch says President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to unveil his anointed presidential candidate on Sunday during a meeting with APC presidential aspirants. The newspaper reports that the federal government has been asked to release the children of terrorists in exchange for Kaduna train attack captives.

The Guardian says there is anxiety in the APC as the party’s screening panel disqualified 10 presidential aspirants. The newspaper reports that the court has remanded Peter Nwachukwu, the husband of late Osinachi, gospel singer, at Kuje correctional centre.

THISDAY reports Bola Tinubu, APC presidential aspirant, said he has respect for Buhari and the comment he made in Yoruba while in Ogun state was lost in translation. The newspaper says a court has ruled that statutory delegates can vote during the forthcoming APC presidential primary.

The Nation reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released guidelines for the 2023 elections. Femi Adesina, the presidential spokesperson, said Buhari did not discuss consensus candidate and zoning with governors during their meeting, the newspaper says.

Saturday Sun reports that Ohanaeze Ndigbo has asked Buhari to cede power to the south-east geopolitical zone ahead of the APC presidential primary. The newspaper says Abba Kyari, suspended deputy police commissioner, will know his fate on extradition to the US on August 29.
