Reports on today’s governorship election in Ekiti state dominated the cover pages of Nigerian newspapers.

Saturday Punch says the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will commence electronic transmission of results with the Ekiti governorship election. The newspaper reports that the cold war between Ifeanyi Okowa, governor of Delta state, and James Ibori, his political godfather, nearly cost him PDP’s vice-presidential ticket.

The Nation says the supreme court ruled that female students can wear hijab in Lagos schools. The newspaper reports that southern and middle-belt leaders criticised Okowa for accepting the vice-presidential slot of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Saturday Tribune says 16 governorship candidates are set to battle for votes in the 16 LGAs of Ekiti. The newspaper reports that Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has picked Doyin Okupe as his running mate in order to beat the deadline stipulated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Daily Trust reports that slain victims of St Francis Catholic church attack in Owo, Ondo state have been buried in a tearful funeral. The newspaper says surveyors who were to work on the site of the Mambilla hydropower project have left the site.

Saturday Independent says Ejike Mbaka, spiritual director of Adoration Ministries, Enugu, Nigeria (AMEN), has apologised over the comment he made about Obi, former Anambra governor. The newspaper reports the UK government has shut down the London-based church of Tobi Adegboyega over alleged £1.9 million fraud.
