Chijioke Edeoga, former Enugu commissioner, elected LP guber candidate
Chijioke Edeoga, a former commissioner for environment in Enugu, has been elected as the governorship candidate for Labour Party (LP) in the state.
Edeoga was elected as the party’s candidate on Thursday at a primary organised by the Enugu chapter of LP.
The party was said to have organised the primary following the decision of Casmir Ugbo, chairman of the LP in Enugu, to withdraw from the race.
Prior to the Thursday primary, Ugbo’s name had been submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the party’s governorship candidate for Enugu state.
During the exercise, which took place at Golf estate, Enugu, Edeoga polled 81 votes and was declared winner of the exercise.
The former house of representatives member contested unopposed.
He had contested the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but lost to Peter Mbah.
Edeoga, thereafter, left the PDP and was said to have joined LP in July.
