President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi of Egypt has pardoned Mohamed Fahmy and Baher Mohammed, the three Al Jazeera TV journalists convicted of broadcasting false news.

They were arrested after being accused of collaborating with the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood following the overthrow of former president, Mohammed Morsi by the military.

They were sentenced to three years in prison last month after a retrial on charges critics said were unfounded.

However, their names were included in a list of 100 prisoners which al-Sisi granted pardon on Wednesday.

The two were pardoned and were expected to be released on Wednesday, according to MENA, an Egyptian-based news agency.

According to MENA, Peter Greste, who was also detained in Egypt until February when he was deported to Australia, was also pardoned but was not identified by name.
