SURVIVOR: Abuja blast hit my arm and leg

Jeffery Imiah, a victim of Friday’s bomb blast at Kuje, Abuja, on Monday recalled how he was caught up in a bomb blast by Boko Haram.

Imiah, an officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who spoke to TheCable about his experience on the night of the blast, said winning the war against insurgency was possible.

Recounting his experience, he said: “I was coming back from work at night. I work for the FRSC. On reaching my alight-point at Kuje, I decided to go further to see a friend briefly before going back to my house.

“After seeing my friend, I was coming out to the main road to a get a bike taxi home. Within the few seconds I touched the ground, I heard a blast which hit me in the leg and arm.”

Responding to a question on his expectations of the Buhari government in fighting insurgency, Imiah, who has undergone a surgery in his right leg, said: “That will be more of a political question. But I believe much has been done in curbing the insurgency in the past few months. But we have to do our part.”

Also, speaking with TheCable, Tayo Haastrup, spokesman of the national hospital where most of the victims of the bomb blast are, said about 12 corpses in the mortuary had not been claimed.

He said that the hospital was taking serious care, and involving the police so that the corpses would not be released to wrong people.

Buhari had visited some of the victims of the blast at the national hospital on Sunday, and assured them of his government’s commitment to their welfare and to ending insurgency in the country.

As of Monday, the number of casualties from the blasts is 18 while the number of the wounded is 41.
