Some members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) received their full salaries for the month of November, TheCable can report.

ASUU has been at loggerheads with the government over its decision to pay members half of their salaries after the union’s eight-month strike ended.

The federal government had insisted that the union members would not be paid for the period they were on strike, citing its ‘no work, no pay’ policy.

Moyosore Ajao, the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) ASUU chairman, told TheCable on Thursday that members were paid for November.

He, however, said there were discrepancies in the payment but did not clarify further.

Ajao also said the federal government is yet to pay the withheld salaries.

“Yes, salary was paid but they (federal government) didn’t pay the backlog, and even the salary that was paid, there are still some discrepancies in it. That is all I can say for now,” he said.

Ogochukwu Ugwueze, a lecturer at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), also confirmed he got his full salary for November.

He, however, said some of his colleagues reported that they did not get complete payment.

“I got full salary for November but some reported they did not get the complete payment. We’re yet to receive the withheld salaries,” he said.

Emmanuel Osodeke, ASUU president, could not be reached for comment as of the time of this report.

Members of the union had earlier threatened to adopt a ‘no pay, no work’ policy if the federal government insists on not paying the withheld salaries.
