The federal government has asked a federal high court sitting in Abuja to send Sambo Dasuki, former national security adviser (NSA), to prison.

On Monday, Mohammed Diri, director of public prosecution at the ministry of justice, brought a motion, asking the court to vacate the bail granted the former NSA who is on trial for alleged illegal possession of firearms and money laundering.

Diri hinged his motion on section 169 of the administration of criminal justice act (ACJA) 2015, and on the fact that Dasuki was still being investigated for other alleged offences.

The motion followed an order by Adeniyi Ademola, justice of the federal high court, Abuja, directing the attorney-general of the federation (AGF) to appear before him on Monday to explain the reasons for the siege which the Department of State Services (DSS) has laid on Dasuki’s residence.

But Abubakar Malami (AGF) failed to appear before the court as promised by Taiwo Abidogun, solicitor-general of the federation, last week.

Ademola adjourned the matter to Thursday for ruling.

Dasuki  was indicted by a presidential panel which investigated the procurement of arms  between 2007 and 2015.

He was alleged to have misappropriated about $2 billion through the award of “fictitious contracts”.

But the former NSA denied the allegation, saying former president, Goodluck Jonathan approved all the contracts that were awarded.

On his part, Jonathan has denied awarding $2 billion for arms purchase.

“I did not award any $2 billion contract for procurement of weapons. Where did the money come from? I did not award a contract of $2billion for procurement of weapons,” the immediate past president said at a lecture in Washington, last week.
