The Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation Americas (NIDOA) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure that the killers of Dennis Abuda are arrested and prosecuted.

Abuda, a US-based Edo prince, was abducted on the Auchi-Benin road in Edo on January 30 while on his way to Lagos to catch a flight back to the US after visiting his hometown.

He was said to have been shot dead while being forced into the forest.

His decomposing body was later found on the Lagos-bound bypass in Benin after ransom was paid to his abductors to secure his release.

In the letter dated February 11, the organisation appealed to the president to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

The letter was signed by Obed Monago, chairman, NIDOA board of trustees; Victor Ubani, president, NIDOA-Atlanta; and Saheed Adeleye, secretary-general, NIDOA-Atlanta.

According to NIDOA, nothing has been heard of the case since February 5 when the police said they had arrested some suspects who were assisting them in their investigation.

It said Abuda was a prominent and well-established member of the Nigerian community in Atlanta who dedicated his life to serving others.

“He frequently traveled to Nigeria to attend to numerous charitable organisations he established to serve and better the lots of his people,” the organisation said.

“Through his numerous charitable acts, many people were empowered to be self-sustaining. The Nigerian community in Atlanta, Georgia, and the people of his hometown have lost someone very dear to them.

“Your Excellency, we appeal to you to see to it that these senseless murderers, who see no value in human lives, are brought to justices.”
