Maxwell Mgbudem
The national working committee (NWC) of Accord has dismissed the suspension of Maxwell Mgbudem as the party’s national chairman.
On Thursday, a faction of the party, including some state chairmen, suspended Mgbudem and named Christopher Imumolen, the 2023 presidential candidate, as the new chairman.
The party had expelled Imumolen in November 2024 over alleged gross misconduct.
In a statement issued on Friday, Joseph Omorogbe, the national publicity secretary of Accord, said non-members cannot suspend a national chairman.

Omorogbe said a suit filed by Imumolen at the federal capital territory (FCT) high court challenging Mgbudem’s suspension was struck out in July, and he did not appeal the ruling.
Omorogbe said the ruling, coupled with Imumolen’s failure to challenge his expulsion, meant he ceased to be a member of the party and could not convene a stakeholders’ meeting or issue directives.
He said Mgbudem’s suspension is “laughable and a joke taken too far to massage his [Imumolen’s] fallen political ego”.

“It is evident that Chris Imumolen is no longer a member of our great party, Accord, let alone calling for a purported stakeholders meeting with political hirelings,” Omorogbe said.
“The party will not want to give relevance to a drowning man looking for a straw to hold and give a false impression of a leadership disagreement in Accord.”
Omorogbe said Mgbedum remains the authentic national chairman of Accord, recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“All members of the party are in one accord and will not be distracted by the activities of its expelled members and their sponsors, whose intention is to destabilise the party ahead of the 2027 general election,” he said.

He urged party members to ignore Imumolen’s suspension, describing it as a cheap publicity stunt aimed at misleading the public.
