The Nigerian Army has deployed a “full brigade” and heavy equipment to Kwara south to intensify operations against bandits terrorising communities in the area.

There have been repeated banditry attacks on communities in Kwara, resulting in deaths and the displacement of many residents.

In a statement on Wednesday, Rafiu Ajakaye, chief press secretary (CPS) to AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, governor of Kwara, said troops were already moving through villages around Oke Ode and Babanla in Ifelodun LGA, with the operation extending to Edu and Patigi to comb dense forests used as hideouts by kidnappers.

Ajakaye said AbdulRazaq praised President Bola Tinubu’s support and the military’s renewed efforts to restore safety in the state, noting that both leaders had discussed the situation when they met in Jos, the Plateau state capital, over the weekend.

“We will not spare any resources in support of the military, DSS, police, and other security agencies as they work to strengthen security of lives and properties,” the governor said while welcoming the army deployment.

“We are upbeat that this operation, as part of the Operation Fasan Yanma, will eliminate all of forms of threats in affected areas in Kwara South and Kwara North.

“I thank the president and the security agencies for the efforts so far. As I said a few days ago, we just need to double our efforts to save the people.
