Abia Warriors humilate defending champions at home

Abia Warriors shocked defending champions, Rangers 2-1 in one of the opening games of the 2017 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Despite taking the lead, the visitors forced Rangers to a draw at the end of the first half.

However, the Warriors took the lead towards the end of the match.

Remo Stars was welcomed to the elite division with a 2-1 home defeat in the hands of Plateau United.

John Kim fired Plateau United to the lead in the first half, but Victor Mbaoma responded with an equaliser at the dot of the half.

Plateau United regained the lead after Golbe Elisha, its captain, utilised a free kick in the early minutes of the second half.

All efforts by the home team to get the equaliser proved abortive.

MFM pounded Niger Tornadoes 3-0, while Shooting Stars beat Lobi Stars 1-0 in Ibadan.

ABS thrashed Akwa United 3-1, and the game between Wikki Tourists and Nasarawa United ended 0-0.

Katsina United defeated Gombe United 2-1, while Rivers United  beat El Kanemi Warriors 2-1.

Enyimba defeated Sunshine Stars 1-0 in Calabar.
