Ernest Mupwaya, managing director of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), says the firm is committing N10 billion to the provision of 222,728 pieces of meters in the next five months.

He disclosed this on Wednesday while flagging the installation of the prepaid meters at CITEC estate in Abuja.

Mupwaya said the installation of the new set of prepaid meters will benefit the company and the customers in its franchise area of the FCT, Kogi, Niger and Nasarawa states.

The managing director added that new meter roll out would address the challenge of high revenue losses in areas without prepaid meters.

In his address, Shehu Malami, chairman , board of directors of AEDC, said shortage and lack of meters has caused frequent disagreements between the company and its customers.

“A successfully executed metering programme will enhance both transparency in the bill of customers as well as energy accountability,” he said.

“The commitment of N10 billion for the provision of 222,728 pieces of meters alone by AEDC is therefore a bold move by the company that clearly debunks the claim that DisCos are benefiting from estimated billing.”
