The Accord Party in Lagos state has announced free nomination forms for female aspirants and people with disabilities (PWDs) ahead of the July 12 LG election.

Dele Oladeji, chairman of the state’s caretaker executive committee, made the announcement on Sunday in Lagos, as the party released its election guidelines and timetable.

Oladeji said that while nomination forms would be free for women and PWDs, those seeking chairmanship and vice-chairmanship positions would be required to pay a N100,000 administrative fee. Councillorship aspirants in the same category would pay N50,000.

However, male aspirants will pay N500,000 for nomination forms for chairmanship and vice-chairmanship positions, in addition to a N100,000 administrative fee.

Male councillorship aspirants will pay N150,000 for nomination forms, plus a N50,000 administrative fee.

“Accord has made its ticket very affordable, as a considerate response to the severe economic challenges facing the state,” Oladeji said.

“This is aimed at enhancing accessibility to governance and encouraging participatory democracy among ordinary Lagos residents, not just the wealthy elite. In addition to affordable forms, Accord is offering free nomination forms to female aspirants, empowering women and supporting the 35 per cent Affirmative Action goal.”

According to the party’s timetable, the purchase of nomination forms began on 19 April and will run until May 10, 2025, at the party’s state secretariat. Submission of forms will also close on May 10.

Screening of aspirants is scheduled for May 12, while party primaries will hold on May 15.

Oladeji said the party’s primary tribunal committee will sit on May 15, with a rerun election, if needed, taking place on May 17.

He noted that all payments must be made into the party’s designated bank account, with receipts presented to the Accord state treasurer for processing.

Oladeji said the party remains a “strong opposition” in Lagos state, citing its record of success in past local government and local council development area (LCDA) elections.
