Accountants can now get registered in 48 hours on new FRC website
The Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN) has launched a new portal that will allow financial professionals, including accountants, to complete their registration within 48 hours.
Speaking on Thursday at the unveiling ceremony, Daniel Asapokhai, FRCN executive secretary, said interested parties would need their bank verification number (BVN) and national identification number (NIN) to complete the registration.
“The new individual registration portal enables a professional to register with the council at the comfort of his office, home or indeed anywhere the Internet is available without a visit to our offices,” he said.
“Furthermore, it reduces the registration process period to the barest minimum. With the new individual registration portal, we expect to issue registration numbers within 48 hours after the successful completion of the online registration process.
“What we have been able to do is to take out the points of friction in that process, which is the collection of biometric information by leveraging the existing national databases, the banking industry database, which is the BVN and the national identity database. So with your BVN or NIN, the registration with the FRCN is now swifter and it can be completed within 48 hours.”
Asapokhai encouraged consumers to use the portal to verify the authenticity of professionals before engaging their services.
“We encourage all professional accountants and other professionals involved in the financial reporting process to leverage the new registration portal to ensure that your name appears in the register of professionals and for the general public to use the online register to confirm that the professionals you engage or deal with, are registered with the Financial Reporting Council.
“We further request that you constantly verify on this portal, the FRC registration numbers of professional accountants and other professionals engaged in financial reporting.”
Asapokhai said the new website will assist the government in its drive to improve the ease of doing business.
