Ogbon-Inu Popoola, an assistant commissioner of police (ACP) in Ebonyi, has died while attending a management meeting at the command headquarters in Abakaliki, the state capital.
Popoola reportedly developed breathing difficulties during the meeting and was rushed to the command’s clinic at the police headquarters, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
Joshua Ukandu, police spokesperson in the state, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Thursday.
Ukandu said Popoola died on Wednesday while attending the management meeting.

“The Ebonyi police command regrets to announce the death of ACP Ogbon-inu Popoola, who died on Wednesday at the command’s clinic in Abakaliki,” the statement reads.
“Until his death, he was the assistant commissioner of police in charge of the state intelligence department.”
Ukandu described the deceased as a “dedicated officer who served the force with commitment and professionalism”.

He said the remains of the late officer have been deposited at a mortuary in Abakaliki.
“The command commiserates with the family of the deceased on this irreparable loss,” he added.
