A native of Ijebu-Igbo in Ogun state, he was Nigeria’s ambassador to Jamaica from 1987 to 1991 before he was appointed deputy high commissioner in the UK.

He served for five years as ambassador to the US and while President Muhammadu Buhari recalled ambassadors, Adefuye appeared to have enjoyed an extension because of the president’s visit to the US.

He earned his first degree in history from the University of Ibadan in 1969.
