Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), says the looting of a federal capital territory (FCT) warehouse shows that the economic policies of the current administration is not beneficial to the people.

On Sunday, some residents of the FCT broke into the government warehouse and made off with foodstuffs, doors of the warehouse and roofing sheets.

Speaking on Monday when he was featured on The Morning Brief, a Channels Televisoon programme, Adegboruwa said Nigerians are expressing a crisis of survival.

He said he believes the action of the people is a message to the president and his economic team to rejig the system in a way that would ensure the survival of majority of Nigerians.

“Across all states in Nigeria presently, there is crisis of survival from the part of the people. So, it is not just this particular occurrence, a truck bearing foodstuff was randomly attacked and looted,” Adegboruwa said.

“I do not support this in any way at all because we must have an environment where we can secure lives and property.

“But it is a reflection of the fact that the economic policies of the present administration are not helping the people of the country and of course these occurrences showcase the frustration that people are going through.

“You know what they say that we pray that we don’t get to a position where the poor will rise up to be eating the rich. I think there is a message to the president and members of his economic team that there is need to rejig the system in such a way that will allow for survival of the majority of our people.”

He noted that the current administration is a continuation of the previous one, adding that Nigerians should not expect something different.

Citing a few examples, Adegboruwa said the government has not been able to do more than the previous government in terms of infrastructure, power and security.

“I do not think Nigerians should expect something different from this particular government,” he said.

“Virtually in every part of this country, it is difficult to move around. There’s fear. There is so much threat to people’s lives and security. So, in terms of that the government is not doing anything or has not been able to do more rhan the previous government.

“Once there’s no security, you can’t talk about economy, investment. It is still the same old story as it existed in the past regime.

“If you access this government, you will see that it’s a continuation of the crises we had in the past eight years of the Buhari regime.”
