Adeniyi Ademola, a judge of the federal high court, has retired from the bench.

He was due for retirement in March.

Although his one-paragraph letter was submitted to the office of the acting chief judge of the federal high court in Abuja, on Thursday, the letter said his retirement took effect from Wednesday.

The judge did not state the reason he tendered his letter ahead of the anticipated date.

On December 13, 2016, Ademola was arraigned alongside his wife Olabowale, who retired as head of service of Lagos state on November 10, 2017.

They arraigned on 11 counts including conspiracy to receive gratification and receiving gratification of N30 million from Joe Agi and Associates, between March 11 and March 26, 2015.

They were discharged in a ruling upholding the respective no-case submissions filed by the defendants.

The court had ruled that the prosecution was unable to make out a prima facie case with respect to any of the 11 counts on concluding its case with 19 witnesses.

The Department of State Services (DSS) had raided the Abuja residence of Ademola in October 2016, testifying subsequently that N38m, two pump action rifles, and some foreign currencies were recovered during the exercise.

The Abuja high court, however, ruled that the DSS lacked concrete evidence to prove the allegation against Ademola.

He was subsequently recalled by the NJC and resumed sitting on June 7.
