Adoke’s trial adjourned till March 1 following COVID-19 infection
Inyang Ekwo, judge of a federal high court, Abuja, has adjourned the trial of Mohammed Bello Adoke, former attorney-general of the federation and minister of justice, till March 1-4.
This follows Adoke’s inability to come to court on Monday as previously scheduled because he contracted COVID-19 while in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for his medicals.
He is due back in the country on Tuesday, having tested negative on Sunday.
Adoke’s lead counsel in the trial for alleged money laundering, Kanu Agabi, told the court of the situation on Monday at the scheduled continuation of trial.
On December 11, 2020, Ekwo granted Adoke permission to travel abroad for his medicals.
He is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Commission (EFCC) for allegedly paying for a property transaction with Aliyu Abubakar in cash above the official threshold.
Adoke has denied the allegation while the EFCC’s star witness, Rislanudeen Mohammed, told the court that there was no money laundering involved in the transaction.
