The Action Democratic Party (ADP) has described the death of Abiola Ajimobi, former governor of Oyo, as a national loss.

Ajimobi died on Thursday in Lagos while receiving treatment for COVID-19.

In a statement by Adelaja Adeoye, ADP national publicity secretary, the party said “it was saddening to hear of his demise”, and prayed for his soul to “rest in the bosom of the Almighty Allah”.

“We know, this is a trying time for all the Oyo State people, on losing one of their respected sons, who has diligently served them in various capacities,” the statement read.

“We, therefore, commiserate with the Government of Oyo State, led by Engr Seyi Makinde, and President Muhammadu Buhari, the leader of his party, All Progressives Congress (APC).”

ADP also called on his immediate family members to keep praying for his soul and for peace in the country.

“Ajimobi is one of the finest politicians in Nigeria. He was well educated and thoroughly brought up as an administrator, who was very adequate in all his assignments. We pray and ask God Almighty Allah, to forgive all his shortcomings, and grant him Aljana Firdaus,” Adeoye added.
