Clash of the ‘Lions’: Senegal seek revenge against Cameroon

Clash of the ‘Lions’: Senegal seek revenge against Cameroon

According to the pundits, Senegal’s clash with Cameroon is the biggest game thus far in AFCON 2017.

The Senegal team is currently one of the most exciting in African football but the lions of Cameroon will be a handful for any team any day.

Franceville, venue of the match, will witness what is expected to be an intense encounter.

In normal circumstances, a Senegal vs Cameroon will be an easy call for the bookmakers but the latter is struggling and the former is ascending.

The clash will give the Lions of Teranga an opportunity to seek revenge against the Indomitable Lions.

Cameroon have been African champions four times: in 1984,1988,2000 and 2002 while Senegal could have won their first title in 2002 but lost the pulsating final to Cameroon.

Pundits wonder whether this will be payback time especially as the Senegal team is in its best form ever.

This will be Senegal’s 12th appearance at AFCON since 1965 and they are full of hope this year, owing to the calibre of players in their ranks.

In spite of the late withdrawal of key players, Cameroon has not really struggled as expected. The lions placed second in Group A.

Senegal started on a high, winning their first two games and then rested star players for the last group game against Algeria which ended in a stalemate.

Cameroon will do well to watch out for Sadio Mane, Balde Keita, Aliou Cisse, and Mame Biram Diouf, who are presently in-form.

Cameroon will rely on captain Benjamin Moukandjo to not only motivate the lions but to also shine upfront with a wonderful partnership with Christian Bassogog, who is Cameroon’s best player so far in the championship.

The current form of Senegal makes them the favourite to win this tie.
