The national grid suffered another system collapse on Tuesday.

The development comes five days after a previous grid collapse, which was restored in less than 24 hours.

The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), in a notice to customers, said the system collapsed at 11:31 am.

The firm said the development caused a total loss of supply across its network.

“We are currently engaging with our partners at the National Control Centre as we await further updates on restoration,” the DisCo said.

TheCable contacted Ndidi Mbah, spokesperson of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), for clarification on the latest incident, but calls and text messages sent to her were unanswered.

In August 2023, TCN had said the power grid maintained uninterrupted stability for over 400 consecutive days.

The company said the milestone signalled a remarkable advancement in the nation’s efforts at strengthening its power infrastructure and ensuring a reliable and dependable electricity supply to distribution load centres for onward distribution to customers nationwide.

“The sustained stability and reliability of the Nigerian power grid can be attributed to a combination of strategic measures and investments in the power system by the Management of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN),” Mbah had said.
