Jimi Agbaje, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos, has promised to cancel the toll on the Lekki-Epe axis of the state, if elected.

Addressing reporters at the party secretariat in Lagos on Wednesday, Agbaje said the decision was based on the fact that the toll-gate was untenable, as it was standing on an existing road.

He, however, disclosed that the Lekki Phase 1 inner bridge would remain, since it was started from the scratch by the concessionaire.

The issue of toll on the Lekki-Epe Expressway has remained controversial since it began in 2014.

The PDP candidate commended Governor Babatunde Fashola of the state for some of the successes recorded in the state, but insisted that Lagos was in need of urgent change and not continuity.

“Most of the problems afflicting the state remain the product of vested interests,” he said.

Agbaje noted that the successes of the present administration were yet to be felt by residents, whom he sai were totally alienated from governance.

He said that the residents were not positively lifted in the areas of health and education, among others.

“Despite the promises of the state government on free health services, Lagosians paid heavily at government hospitals,” he said.

He promised to address the health services problems through a free health insurance scheme that would be paid for by the government.
