Festus Keyamo, minister of aviation and aerospace development, says he suspended the Nigeria Air project and airports concession due to complaints from agencies of government.

On August 31, Keyamo announced the suspension of Nigeria Air and airports concessions — two major projects under the aviation roadmap of the preceding administration.

Speaking during a tour of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja, Keyamo said the two projects would remain suspended until the government makes a final decision on them.

He said the government would take measurable steps, including looking into the projects’ reports, responding to the concerns of Nigerians, and spotting red flags; before a decision is made.

“It would be irresponsible of me as a minister to come in and agencies of government are raising red flags here and there and I would keep quiet,” the minister said.

“I am not talking about people, Nigerians complaining now, agencies of government are raising red flags about both projects and I, as a government functionary, would then waive all those red flags away.”

Aside from the suspension, Keyamo said no decision has been made about the Nigeria Air project and airports concessioning.

The minister had also directed all airlines to vacate the old terminal at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, from October 1, 2023.
