Super Eagles of Nigeria winger, Ahmed Musa is looking to dethrone Yaya Toure as Africa’s best player.

The CSKA Moscow winger has been nominated among 25 players for the GLO/CAF African Player of the Year Award for 2014 after his scintillating performances for club and country.

This is the second year running that the Jos-born star is making the CAF short list.

Musa helped his Russian side to win back-to-back league titles and he’s playing a big role in their quest to qualify in second position from their UEFA Champions League group behind runaway leaders Bayern Munich.

The former Kano Pillars player was among the few Super Eagles players who held their own at the World Cup, scoring a brace against eventual finalist Argentina in the group stage.

He scored another two goals against Sudan in October to revive Nigeria’s fading hopes of qualifying for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Alphabetically, the 22-year-old tops the list of nominees for the award and Musa wants to remain tops when the winner is announced on Thursday, January 8, 2015 in Lagos..

“I feel very happy to be nominated for African Player of the Year award by CAF. It is a great feeling to be appreciated. I will be so glad if I win it and I hope to emerge as the winner,” Musa told AfricanFootball.com

The winner of this award, and other awards, will be decided by votes from the head coaches and technical directors of the national associations affiliated to CAF.
