Air strike ‘kills scores of ISWAP fighters’ in Borno

The air task force of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) has reportedly killed scores of fighters of the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) in Borno state.

According to Zagazola Makama, a publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the air strike was carried out on ISWAP camps at Bukar Mairam in Marte LGA of Borno on Sunday.

Sources said the bombing was executed after the military received intelligence reports that insurgents established a training camp in the village and were converging to plan for an attack on troops.

In a related development, scores of insurgents were killed during a clash between ISWAP and Boko Haram fighters over the weekend in Kadunan Ruwa area in Kukawa LGA of Borno.

Zagazola Makama said the insurgents were engaged in a heavy gun battle which lasted for about about two days.

Sources said over 40 insurgents were killed from both sides.
