Many Nigerian players were in action for their respective clubs in the past week.

The top performers made TheCable’s team of the week.

Dele Aiyenugba [Hapoel Iksal]

Easily the man of the match. He made a handful of brilliant saves from the Maccabi Ahi Nazareth attackers.

William Troost Ekong [Udinese]

The former KAA Gent defender used his experience and tradecraft to keep a clean sheet for the hosts who beat Cagliari 2-0. He thundered into every tackle and often came out on top.

He never allowed the opposition any room and was a rock, making several crucial tackles and even started off a couple of attacks.

Semi Ajayi [Rotherham United]

His defending was top-notch while the match lasted. He wasn’t at fault for the goal scored by the hosts.

Babatunde Michael [Wydad Casablanca]

He netted the winner from the penalty spot. Patrolled the flank like a well-drilled soldier.

Alex Iwobi [Arsenal]

He delivered an assist and was Arsenal’s best player in the 5-1 loss to Liverpool. He defended when needed and often advanced up the field as expected.

Wilfred Ndidi [Leicester City]

He put in a determined display against Cardiff City. He was always looking for the ball and controlled the centre of the park.

Odeni Jamabo [Hapoel Ramat Gan]

An exceptional performance from the ex-Eupen midfielder who brought an extra zeal to the Ramat Gan midfield. Always looking to exploit any ball or mistake.

Christian Irobiso [Farense]

Caused problems with his incisive running and scored a goal after beating his markers with ease.

Simy Nwankwo [Crotone]

He did everything and scored, constantly probing and pushing defenders into making mistakes against Ascoli.

Joel Ayeni [Gokulum Kerala]

Ayeni scored a brace for Gakulum Karela. His first was a reward for his alertness while his second was a well-struck spot kick.
