Godswill Akpabio, senate president, says the 10th national assembly will prioritise labour-friendly legislation aimed at improving the welfare and rights of Nigerian workers.
Akpabio stated this on Wednesday in a message to commemorate International Workers’ Day.
In a statement by Eseme Eyiboh, his special adviser on media and publicity, Akpabio commended Nigerian workers for their resilience, diligence, and unwavering commitment to national development despite economic hardship.
“Today, we celebrate the hard work and dedication of Nigerian workers,” he said.

“We, in the Senate and of course, the national assembly, acknowledge your invaluable contributions to our nation’s development.
“I commend your resilience in the face of challenges and recognise your role in driving our economy forward.
“Despite obvious challenges, you remain the backbone of our economy. I salute your unwavering commitment to excellence and productivity. Your contributions are vital to our nation’s progress.”

The senate president said the legislature under his leadership would not hesitate to advance bills that promote better working conditions, security, and opportunities for growth.
He also pledged that the national assembly will collaborate with the executive to ensure workers’ rights are protected and enforced.
“Under our eyes, no Nigerian worker will be victimised on account of expressing himself or herself either in demanding for their rights or seeking legal redress,” he said.
“I must say that Nigerian workers are our pride and we will not shirk our responsibility working together with the executive to address workers’ concerns and create opportunities for growth and prosperity.

“Together, we shall build a brighter future for Nigerian workers and our great nation.”
On Wednesday, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar said Nigerian workers are the backbone of the nation’s journey towards prosperity.
In a statement, Paul Ibe, the media adviser to Abubakar, hailed the resilience and sacrifices of Nigerian workers, noting that their contributions remain vital to the nation’s progress.
