Akwa Ibom PDP: We’re not shaken by Umo Eno’s defection to APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom says it remains “unshaken” by the defection of Umo Eno, governor of the state, to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Eno officially joined the ruling party on June 6, after months of hinting at a possible defection.

In a statement issued on Monday, Edwin Ebiese, PDP spokesperson in Akwa Ibom, said the party is “100 percent intact” despite Eno’s defection.

Ebiese said party stakeholders engaged in “comprehensive internal consultations and alignment” to reach an informed decision before issuing any public statement after the governor’s defection.

“To this end, we embarked on a meticulous series of meetings, starting with our State Working Committee, followed by the Party Executive Committee (EXCO), Chapter Chairmen, and Ward Chairmen across the three Senatorial Districts of Eket, Ikot Ekpene, and Uyo,” the statement reads.

“Additionally, we held a crucial meeting with the staff of the party secretariat, thereby covering the entire spectrum of our organizational hierarchy.

“These meetings recorded 100% attendance, providing a platform for introspection, problem-solving, and strategic recalibration, enabling us to address internal dynamics.

“The outcome of these deliberations reaffirmed our collective resolve, underscoring that our party remains 100% intact and unshaken.

“We firmly believe that our decision to prioritize internal cohesion and strategic alignment was essential.

“Our public message now accurately reflects our party structure’s collective opinion and resolve.

“As we continue to strategize for a stronger party, we will share our plans to strengthen our party structure further and advance our mission in future communications.
