Rivers United defeated Young Africans 1-0 in the second leg of the CAF Champions League play-off at Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt, on Sunday.

The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side advanced to the next round of the competition after a 2-0 aggregate scoreline.

Akwa United, the second NPFL representative in the CAF Champions League, crashed out after CR Belouizdad defeated the Uyo-based team 2-0 in Algeria.

The team failed to capitalise on the first leg advantage as Hichem Khefallah broke the deadlock from a free kick in the 71st minute to square it up to 1-1 on aggregate.

Ubong Friday, the hero in the first leg in Uyo, committed an infringement in the box, giving away an advantage to the home side.

Chemseddine Nessakh, captain of Belouizdad, sent Adewale Adeyinka, Akwa’s shot-stopper, the wrong way to net the second goal and seal victory for the Algerian side.

In the CAF Confederation Cup qualifying round, Bayelsa United defeated Ashanti Golden Boys of Guinea 4-2 to progress to the next round.

Favour Martins, Okardi Inikurogha, and Emo James got the Yenagoa-based side ahead with three goals in the first half. Moussa Keita netted a brace for the visitors in the second half before Okardi scored his second of the night for the home side.

The Nigeria National League (NNL) side, who qualified for the competition after winning the Aiteo Federation Cup, will face CS Sfaxien of Tunisia in the next round.
