ALERT: NRC warns passengers against fake train ticket platforms

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has raised the alarm over the activities of fraudulent platforms soliciting train ticket payments from unsuspecting members of the public through unauthorised and personal bank accounts.

In a statement on Tuesday by Callistus Unyimadu, chief public relations officer of the corporation, NRC said it has no affiliation with the platforms and warned passengers not to engage with them.

“The NRC wishes to categorically state that these platforms are not affiliated with the Corporation and any payment made through such channels is done at the victim’s risk,” the statement reads.

“Passengers are strongly advised to desist from engaging with these fraudulent sites and must not, under any circumstances, pay into personal or unverified accounts for train bookings.”

The corporation listed the only authorised online booking portals for its train services as “Warri-Itakpe Train Service (WITS): https://nrc-fane.ng, Abuja-Kaduna Train Service (AKTS): https://nrc.tps.ng, and Lagos-Ibadan Train Service (LITS): https://nrc.gsds.ng”.

NRC urged members of the public to verify any booking platform through its official website — www.nrc.gov.ng — or by contacting its customer service centres.

“We remain committed to ensuring the safety and satisfaction of all our esteemed passengers,” he added.

Unyimadu also said the corporation is collaborating with relevant security agencies to investigate and prosecute individuals involved in the scam.
