The social media accounts created for Ibrahim Gambari, chief of staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, are fake.

Boss Mustapha, secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), announced on Wednesday that Buhari had appointed Gambari as chief of staff.

He replaced Abba Kyari who died on April 17 from COVID-19 complications.

Soon after Gambari’s appointment was announced, different social media accounts were opened in his name.

When contacted by TheCable on the authenticity of the accounts, Bashir Ahmad, an aide to President Muhammadu Buhari on new media, said the new chief of staff is not on social media yet.

“All the twitter accounts bearing Professor Ibrahim Gambari, the Chief of Staff to President @MBuhari are fake,” Ahmad said.

“The new CoS doesn’t have an account on twitter or on any social media platform. If he wishes to have one, it will be communicated properly.”

The new chief of staff, who is from Kwara state, was the minister of external affairs from 1984 to 1985 under Buhari’s military regime.

He also served as the under secretary-general of the UN and special adviser to the secretary-general on Africa between 1999 and 2005.
