A video wherein Emmanuel Udom, governor of Akwa Ibom state, accused the police of being partisan is currently being shared on social media platforms.

Checks by TheCable showed that the video is from 2018, months ahead of the 2019 general election.

In the video, Udom, at a press conference, accused both the police and military authorities of intimidating the people of the state.

The governor had said despite repeated calls on President Muhammadu Buhari, nothing was done.

“I’ve never heard where Nigeria police is a partisanship. This is the first time I’m seeing where an entire police structure is belonging to a political party,” he had said.

“Since we don’t have the police, we don’t have anything except God and our people. We want the whole world know that whatever happened in this state is caused by the police.

“We are calling on all; let the police force be called to order. They are meant to maintain internal peace and order, and not to cause chaos in someone’s state. And if they are playing politics this way, it’s not good for democracy in the country.”

The governor had alleged that the police wanted to cause mayhem in the state so as to disrupt the electoral process.

The 2018 video is, however, being circulated as though a recent one.

Meanwhile, Akwa Ibom has witnessed a series of attacks on police stations in recent times.

The governor, who sympathised with the police command on the development on Monday, donated N60 million to the families of officers killed during attacks on stations in the state.
