Alex Nwankwo, an Abuja-based public relations practitioner better known as AlexReports, has called on the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) to intensify the war against quacks tarnishing the reputation of the profession.
Speaking on the occasion of the 2025 World Public Relations Day (WPRD), Nwankwo lauded the progress made by NIPR in professionalising public relations and increasing its value in national discourse, particularly in promoting effective leadership and good governance.
He expressed concerns over the activities of individuals who operate as PR practitioners without undergoing the requisite training and certification from the NIPR.
He said quacks bring dishonour to the profession and undermine efforts to entrench decorum and strengthen professionalism in public relations.

Nwankwo urged the NIPR leadership, under Ike Neliaku, the president, to remain firm and resolute in ensuring that such quacks have no place to carry out their nefarious activities.
He called for concerted efforts to identify, arrest, and prosecute offenders to safeguard the integrity of the profession.
He also praised Neliaku for initiatives such as the establishment of the University of Public Relations and Leadership (UPRL), the first of its kind globally, aimed at nurturing credible leaders to build a new Nigeria.
