Alex Otti: Politicians planning to rig Abia guber should first write their wills

Alex Otti, Abia governor

Alex Otti, governor of Abia, has asked politicians scheming to rig the 2027 governorship election in the state to abandon their plans.

Speaking on Thursday during a monthly meeting with journalists at the government house in Umuahia, Otti said the will of God and the people will determine the outcome of the polls.

The governor also asked those planning to manipulate the process to prepare for the consequences.

“I have heard that some people around him say, ‘Oh, they must take over this state, they must write results’,” he said.

“But the only advice I have for them is that if they truly want to write results, they should write something else before that time.

“You know what it is? Their will.”

Otti was reacting to comments attributed to Benjamin Kalu, deputy speaker of the house of representatives, who said the All Progressives Congress (APC) will take over Abia in 2027.

The governor said he has no objection to anyone contesting, but warned that attempts to subvert the people’s mandate will not be tolerated.

His remarks come amid early political manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 governorship race in Abia.

Otti, who won the 2023 governorship election on the platform of the Labour Party (LP), is currently in his first term of four years in office.
