On the morning of April 14, the first bomb blast that would herald a string of other blasts this year occurred.

The theatre of the tragedy was a bus station at Nyanya where 75 people died and 146 other people were wounded.

And roughly two weeks after the bus station carnage, on May 1, another bomb went off at a taxi station, which was near the site of the previous blast. A police report put the figures of the dead at 19 and the wounded at 60.

The police have since sealed off the area, and soldiers have taken over the streets of the fear-stricken town of Nyanya, near Abuja.

And just as Nigerians were getting a respite from the shock of the two Abuja blasts, another one occurred at a pub at Sabon Gari, in Kano, Sunday night. It was a suicide bomb attack that resulted in the death of five persons.

And on Tuesday, as Nigerians were still reeling from the stupefaction occasioned by the flurry of messy blasts, another catastrophic explosion ripped through the densely populated Terminus Market of Jos.

The number of casualties has been reported to be high, owing to the cluster of people in the area.

  • More than 1000 have been killed in Boko Haram attacks this year, and with the uptick in the attacks, it is uncertain if the explosions will stop.
  • The figure of all who have died in bomb blasts since the turning of this year is 104, before the Jos blasts.
  • The figure of the wounded, without Jos, is 206.
