Tony Olofu, Anambra commissioner of police, has directed officers to remain courageous in tackling perpetrators of recent attacks across the state.

Olofu said this on Monday, when he visited the police area command, the operational base of the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) office — all in Nnewi — which were attacked on Sunday.

The police commissioner, who was accompanied by senior officers and tactical squads, also visited the country homes of Joe Igbokwe, chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Chu Okongwu, a former minister of finance during the military regime.

Speaking on the visit, Ikenga Tochukwu, spokesman of the Anambra police command, said Olofu encouraged the officers to brace up for the challenges facing the state.

“The CP, while condemning the recurring public disturbances and attacks on government facilities and private residences in the state, enjoined the police personnel to be firm,” Ikenga said.

“He also called on them to be resolute in resisting and taking the battle to the doorstep of the perpetrators of these dastardly acts to bring them to book.

“The CP also reassures Anambra people of the command’s avowed commitment to do everything within its powers to maintain public security and safety in the state.

“He enjoined them to remain vigilant, law-abiding and assist the police and the security community with timely and credible crime prevention information.”
