The Anambra commissioner of police Ikioye Orutugu has ordered tightened security around Oko Polytechnic.

On June 20, two people were reported dead and two others abducted after an alleged cultist in the Oko area of Anambra state.

Oko is the host community of the federal polytechnic in Anambra.

Disturbing videos of lifeless bodies surfaced, with local accounts revealing that gunmen had attacked the community in the late hours of June 19.

Orutugu visited the crime scene for assessment, ordered tightened security, and sought the cooperation of the community’s residents.

He was accompanied by operatives from the State Criminal Investigation Department, Tactical Teams, and Operations Department.

The CP engaged with the Orumba North chairman Casmir Nwafor and other stakeholders, including the leadership of the Oko Polytechnic Students Union.

During the interaction, Orutugu called for increased collaboration from residents and students in exposing the criminals responsible for the violence.

In response, the stakeholders pledged their full support, committing to share actionable intelligence to help identify and apprehend perpetrators, support police investigations, and enhance security.

Orutugu visited the hospital where some of the injured are receiving treatment, offering support for their medical care and interacting with the facility’s management.

The CP directed immediate security reinforcement, particularly around hostels and school environments, to enhance surveillance and minimise risks to public safety.
